industrialYoga – costuming & style – evolution

Miniaturization antiquates the traditional hallmarks of cyberpunk connections:  Circuit boards, wires, and flexible tubing.  There simply aren’t any more visible connections.  Or, rather, soon there won’t be.

And, whereas most people are steeped in apocalytical gloom, I view technology as our eventual liberator from traditional dilemmas:  Abundant and free energy would go a long way to obsolescing scarcity.  Without scarcity, there would be no dwindling resources (except for hearts and minds) to fight over.  Cheap, tasty, vat-grown, meat-in-a-tube would eventually put the butcher out of business…

But I digress.

In a nutshell:  I’m an optimist.

I see the intrusive, cyborgian  parts transmuted into romantic, middle eastern, far eastern, and tribal ornamentation.

I see the tubes of the traditional gas and face masks swirled about the model in an embryonic pose, connected to something larger.

Instead of the environment intersecting the subject with cold, hard, technology, I see it swirling about the subject in luminous veils.

These are the things that I can’t find inspiration pics for.  (That’s a good thing.  No need copy others.)  However, these should serve as a spring board…

industrialYoga – costuming & style – traditional

I’ll start off with the more traditional, visual concepts of industrial and cyberpunk themes.  This not where I want to end up.  But to understand where we’re going, we need a point of departure:

Separation from and connection with an industrial and technological environment.

Separation from usually indicates the toxicity and danger of the industrial environment:  Goggles, gas masks, and guns.

Connection with is often depicted with biomechanical (H. R. Giger) and cyborg-esque (Sorayama) wires and flexible tubing.  Cyberlox (synthetic dreadlocks) can be seen as an extension of this subject-tech entwinement.

Not really sure how to categorize these…

industrialYoga – sitting

One and two shots in traditional, meditative poses.

Shots not depicting meditative poses are for lighting purposes only.

industrialYoga – standing

One and two shots of the models standing.  Again, I’d like to be able to walk around and take the same pose from as many angles as possible.

industrialYoga – kneeling

One and two shots of kneeling/sitting/twisting poses.  I realize that some of these poses are unrealistic.  Just think of them as inspiration.

I’d like to be able to walk all the way around the models–including from overhead to dead-on level–while they’re in the same pose.  I’m thinking we should put them on that long table to make the level shots easier.  Otherwise, I can lay on my belly.  Unlike Tim, aka Fan Boy, I’m not proud.

Some of these are nudes, so I’m putting all of them after the break.

industrialYoga – photoInspPics 01

The basic idea is two chicks (Cat and 12), dressed in industrial attire, doing yoga poses.

All shots are full body.  We need to figure out if it would be best to work with a black or white backdrop.  I’m thinking white, but not as blown out as last time.  More of a sliding scale of gray.

I’m starting out with the best set of inspiration pictures that I have. They’re both unrealistic, pose-wise, and portray women who are absolutely, utterly nude. In no way safe for work or family.

Shots not depicting yoga poses are for lighting purposes only.

I’ll break it down, shot-by-shot, as well as go over make up and costuming, in subsequent posts.
